ACT NOW!
'I share the feeling so many I've spoken with have that it's not enough. It is not, but it is a beginning we can build on. No one knows what will happen in this suddenly destabilized country, but I do know we can choose to have a role in what happens, and it's possible we can determine what happens. "Don't ask what will happen. Be what happens"' Rebecca Solnit

What Can I Do?

Elon's Crappy Birthday
Saturday, June 28, 9:00 AM
Tesla Store and Gallery
500 E St. Elmo Road
6/28 happens to be Elon Musk’s birthday! Naturally, we're protesting outside his store in South Austin in a critical moment for our democracy. Expect an opportunity to write a post card to Elon and a special custom piñata! Bring a friend or two or come solo!

Elon and Tesla are both enablers of Trump's administration. Watch this speech by one of the organizers which explains the overall reasoning for the Tesla protests:

Petition the Commissioners Court
Travis County gave Tesla massive tax breaks. Now workers are dying, pollution is rising—and we’re still footing the bill. It’s time to hold Tesla accountable.

Sign the petition now to tell the Commissioners Court: no more giveaways to law-breaking corporations.

Rally for Housing Not Handcuffs
June 27th at 10:00AM
Republic Square Park
On June 27th, a year will have passed since the Supreme Court made it illegal to sleep outside. Since then, 250+ anti-homeless, anti-survival bills have been introduced across the Country. People who are unhoused face constant harassment and criminalization despite the lack of housing and care or real solutions to our housing crisis.
Now, Congress is negotiating a bill that would slash Medicaid, food stamps, and other essentials to pay for tax cuts for billionaires. If passed, millions of people across Texas will end up hungrier, homeless, and unwell. Our representatives are attacking the crucial safety nets our communities rely on -- tossing families to the street and doubling down on ticketing and arresting people too poor to afford a place to live.
Join people across the country to demand real solutions to end homelessness, stop deadly budget cuts, and reject unjust fines and arrests! We'll gather at Republic Square and then march to Senator Cornyn's office to protest the proposed cuts (about a five minute walk from the park).

From Chop Wood, Carry Water:

Rachel Cohen, the lawyer who left her law firm over its decision to comply with the Trump administration, has created a fantastic action to hold the law firms that are caving to Trump accountable.

The idea is to send emails to organizations where these lawyers sit on the boards and ask them to remove those lawyers from their board. This creates specific individual consequences for the lawyers who decided to cave.

She’s created a tool kit that allows you to send emails automatically, by clicking on a link—this will work for everyone EXCEPT for those with VPNs. If it doesn’t work for you she also provides all of the letters as separate docs so you can copy and paste them into an email or print them.

(Here is a link to her TikTok about this action, although you’re not all on TikTok. It doesn’t seem to be on any other platforms.)

Stop Trump's Crypto Corruption
Call your senators -- Republicans AND Democrats -- to demand that they oppose a cryptocurrency bill enabling Trump’s corruption. Indivisibles recently helped derail a toothless bill that would’ve let Trump keep profiting from the presidency via his crypto investments. Now, that bill is on the move again, and we need to let our senators hear us so we can defeat it for good.

From Chop Wood, Carry Water:
Here's a way to help federal employees!
This is from the leadership of AFGE (the American Federation of Government Employees). Trump has been heavily targeting them, and they need our help right now.
"Our union is going through some tough challenges right now... The Trump Administration issued an executive order illegally eliminating dues deduction for our 330,000 members and putting our union’s existence under threat. We have launched a campaign to get our members to enroll into e-dues so they can remain members, and have successfully enrolled more than 100,000 people already. But we need help reaching the rest. Do you have a good group of phone bankers you can mobilize to help us? Our next phone bank session will be Thursday, April 24 at Noon ET / 9AM PT. You can register below. (They will also have a session Tuesday, April 29 at 5pm DC time, see below, too.) We will give an update on the campaign at the beginning of the call and then a training for new folks joining the effort. The phone banking will all be to existing AFGE members to get them to enroll in E-dues so they remain members. Thank you in advance for any help you can provide on recruiting good phone bankers for this effort."

What’s the Plan? A Weekly Discussion with Indivisible’s Co-Founders
Thursdays
2 – 3pm (central)

If you ever need a bit of motivation, this is a WEEKLY mobilization meeting with Ezra Levin and Leah Greenberg of Indivisible Guide.

https://www.mobilize.us/indivisible/event/773746/
The onslaught of news, the chaos coming out of the White House – it’s all meant to overwhelm us. It’s a deliberate strategy to sow confusion and make us believe we are powerless to fight back.

The antidote: Coming together in community to process what’s happening, to sift through what’s important and what’s just noise, and coalesce around strategies for fighting back.

Join Indivisible co-founders Leah Greenberg and Ezra Levin each week, as we carve out an hour to discuss what’s happening and – more importantly – what’s the plan.

Oppose the SAVE Act
Call Your Senators
Hi, I'm a constituent calling from [zip]. My name is ______. I understand that the House just passed the SAVE Act. I am deeply opposed to this bill. It will disenfranchise tens of millions of American citizens with no access to a birth certificate or passport, and 69 million married women who took their husband’s last names. All to address a problem that doesn’t exist! I demand that the Senator vote no on this bill. Also please oppose H.R. 1526, the No Rogue Rulings Act, and any other attempt to rewrite the federal court system. These are terrifying attacks on our system of law. They cannot pass.

Finally, please ask the Senator to demand the return of Kilmar Abrego. Thanks.

Joy As a Form of Activism
Always a good reminder including a nice list of 10 suggestions!

"No one was ever helped because an activist denied themselves joy, or laughter, or fun. Lama Rod Owens teaches students that just because the lotus doesn’t bloom without the mud, we don’t need to be little piggies and roll around in it. Hardships exist, but if we are to deal with them, and see positivity bloom, we need to get out of the mud."

Add Your Name: Free Mahmoud Khalil
Mahmoud was taken from his apartment and separated from his wife as part of a broader strategy of repression. The forceful separation of families is inhuman and cruel. These tactics have long been used against Black and Brown communities to control and silence resistance.

Black Lives Matter condemns this blatant attack on free speech, student activism, and the right to protest. The government is trying to make an example out of Mahmoud to send a message: if you resist, if you organize, if you challenge state violence, they will come for you.

Add your name to fight back now. We need to free Mahmoud Khalil, abolish ICE, and fight back against this administration.

Support Ukraine!
We are horrified and ashamed by the way President Zelenskyy was treated in the White House on Friday. If you feel the same way, here are some actions to take:

1. Send money to the Ukranian government.
This fund, which was started in mid-2022, goes directly to them. If we all do this, we’ll send a non-trivial amount of money and make a big statement about what the American people think of the disgraceful behavior of our leaders.
2. Calls to Congress, part 2:

Call your Senators and your Representative and ask whether they have made a public statement in support of President Zelenskyy and Ukraine. Either thank them for supporting Ukraine, or ask them how it advances American interests (as opposed to the business interests of Trump and Musk) to support Russian dictators rather than democratically elected presidents.
3. Send a letter of support for President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Ukrainian leaders and soldiers, and the resilient people of Ukraine
4. Rally at the Capitol with our neighbors
